Though none of what I'm wearing today is thrifted...I'm loving being able to bundle up on these cold mornings!
Today sporting my red skinniest from Wet Seal, pain white tee from Sonoma life and style via Kohls, faux leather jacket by Mudd via ROSS, leopard scarf by Apt. 9 via Kohls, and blue canvas mocs with red stitching by Olukai.

Long Time No Thrift...

Hello again fellow thrifters!!
So, sad to say it's been a while since I've had a successful thrifting day :( and I have to admit I haven't gone much recently. I have been on the opposite end of thrifting than usual. I had a garage sale! Needless to say its hard to watch others find the treasure where I now only see junk...but it was successful! I purged my shed, closet, storage, everything! It felt great to make space for my future treasures! (No I'm not a hoarder! I just like my stuff.) it is a great skill to be able to purge when necessary.

Luckily my last trip to my local Goodwill was a minor success!
So...
I LOVE my old VHS tapes and refuse to give up my VCR, therefore I always scour the rack of VHS tapes at my local Goodwill. On my last visit I was lucky enough to find two of The Lord Of The Rings series and on top of that it was half off day so I got both for $1!!

Also a great find that day was this awesome vintage feeling watch. It's faux pearl band makes it cute and classic. Also the face is in Roman numerals! Very cool! On the downside, I took it to my jeweler and he said that its broken :( sad day, but for only $4.99 I'll still wear it as a fashionable bracelet! And let's be honest, I probably couldn't figure out the time on it anyways!

Finally, I found this awesome faux turquoise pendant necklace for only $4.99! I am so in love with this necklace I've worn almost everyday! It truly goes with everything!

So...today's tips on thrifting, you won't always find something and that's okay!
Don't forget the sections other than clothes.
Faux is fine!
Don't give up!

Double Duty Skirt

Hello again my fellow Thrifters!
It's been a very busy holiday season around my house, sorry I haven't been around to give any more thrifting input.
My most recent thrifting adventure left much to be desired but I still have some photos and tips for you!

So this skirt caught my attention on the rack at my local Goodwill. Doesn't look too special I know, I know, but for $4 I couldn't pass up this opportunity!

What really caught me was the print and colors. It has a cream base, brown, tan, and teal dashes/dots. GREAT color pallet!

And what have I already told you about looking for brand names. See! Ann Taylor LOFT! People give away great quality stuff without a second thought. This piece looks like its never been worn.

So, here it is on from the front and from the side, it's still not so great but it has a silk slip built in and feels great on.

It does have a professional look about it so that's the idea I started with. I almost always wear a camisole and with this I chose to go with the darker brown color (cause that's what I have) you could just as easily wear tan, teal, or cream. I like my colors to 'match' but pop as well.

Some peoples first instinct with a camisole is to just leave it out like I did on the left. This makes my hips look square and boxy, making me look larger in my waist.
It looks so much better tucked in, tucking allows the skirt to accentuate my waist the way it was made to.

I had this jacket hiding in  my closet. This wasn't from this thrift trip but it is thrifted!
I chose it mostly cause I LOVE the buttons on it!

So on the left is the whole outfit so far....

On the right are some shoes I've had for ages, from ROSS I think. They just happen to be the perfect shade of teal!

I added some 'pearls' I found for $8 at Goodwill and....voila!

A great, professional, work outfit; all from the inspiration of one so-so article of clothing.

So after I made up this outfit a thought dawned on me, 'It's freezing in Ukiah right now, I don't want my legs bare! Nor do I really want to be dressed so professionally all the time.' So I made a second outfit as well.

Inspired mostly by my fantastic tights and amazing boots!
Both of which go perfect with the color pallet.

So I know I said tuck camisoles in, but with this, I thought it best to leave out...your thoughts??

I call this my 'old man' sweater cause well...it is an old mans sweater. Looks pretty bad on the hanger right? But is 100% cashmere! It's so cozy and warm for this time of year! I like to roll the sleeves on it.

I added an orange infinity scarf that I knit and again, this skirt has a whole new life! Looks like this skirt will be pulling double duty at my house!

Until next time Thrifters! Thrift Queen of Ukiah Signing off!

Most Recent Finds...

Alright...Here goes nothin'

My most recent finds are from Goodwill's in Ukiah, CA and Willits, CA, and a small shop in Willits called Carol's Consignment.

Firstly:
This printed see-through top found at Goodwill Ukiah....not so hott on the hanger, (don't judge an article of clothing based on how it hangs!) proof, looks a LOT better on! I added a like colored camisole (Kohl's), this one is mustard, but the top also has red, tan, black, and blue, all of which would be suitable undershirts. Paired with any jeans and another thrift find, my 'old man' cashmere cardigan.
*Always go through the men's sweater section in thrift shops, they have no idea what good things they GIVE away. (like expensive cashmere!)
Next up we have this horrendous looking sweater from Goodwill in Willits...I know, you may think there's no way to fix this without sewing but that's just not sew I mean so (haha) This ugly sweater is mostly brown with flecks of maroon, mustard, and purple. So I once again used my mustard camisole, black mini skirt, black belt, and mustard tights. Whole new look!
*Try to see beyond the 'ugly-ness' of an item; when you thrift you have to look for colors that go with basic items you already have, like your camisoles and tights/leggings.
My next find is from Ukiah Goodwill; boxy looking sequin dress that made me think, 'I'd have to be curvy to look good in that' its just a big rectangle basically. But after I put it on I saw the potential; awesome leather jacket found at Carol's Consignment in Willits for only $18! Plus black boots from ROSS, and an infinity scarf I knit myself! (check out crafty-knitter.blogspot.com for knitting help!)
*When you find an item you like, but aren't sure it works with your body type think of things you have at home, like belts, jackets, scarves, etc. that could change the whole look.
Next is my shrunken sweater problem...My best friend and I saw this sweater at the Goodwill in Willits; the problem? It was crazy shrunk, boo :( the reason I kept it is because it's 100% fine Marino Wool! Super warm and good quality! So my friend thought it was wrecked because it was an XL shrunk to a child's size. I had a Flashdance flashback and remembered that 80's is making a comeback and how could I pass up this great sweater!?!? So I got home pulled out a camisole, a necklace and voila! Cute-ness.
*Just like when seeing over-sized items, you have to be creative with shrunken or too small items; this could also be made into a cardigan, but that involves sewing which I'm trying to avoid hehe
Okay last one for tonight: Goodwill in Ukiah, great Mossimo vest size medium. Brown, tan, and navy plaid. Easy to make an outfit with this one: navy/blue camisole under a white or tan long sleeve v-neck, and vest over top. Wear with jeans and comfy flats or boots depending on the weather and you've got a great Fall/Winter outfit.
*When putting outfits together for Fall and Winter its sometimes hard to utitlize the rest of your wardrobe. Try layering your cami's, t-shirts, and long sleeves with vest, sweaters, and jackets.**

That's all for now, thanks for checking out my blog, be sure to like, comment, ask questions, 'Pin', 'Tweet', 'Facebook' etc! Thanks!!
